EMS Physician Response

KERPA sends a volunteer EMS Physician to some of the most critical 911 calls in the Kootenay Region. Our physician is specifically trained and experienced to work with and support the emergency services in this challenging rural environment. Our dedicated ground unit is equipment with advanced medications and state of the art equipment enabling us to provide critical interventions such as anesthetic and surgical procedures safely at the road side. With well over 850 critical 911 responses in the Province our EMS physician is experienced in this role. 

In addition to formal medical training KERPA requires all emergency response physicians to maintain the following credentials:

  • Full Licence with the BC College of Physicians & Surgeons
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Pediatric Life Support (PALS)
  • Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
  • Incident Command ICS 100 Certificate
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
  • Ongoing medical education and quarterly critical skills training
