What is KERPA?
KERPA is the first CAMTS accredited Special Operations Medical Retrieval Service in Canada. We are a Canadian Registered Charity (#BN 769710328 RR0001) with the goal of saving lives, helping critically ill and injured patients and support the emergency services in the Kootenay Region.
We send trained Emergency Response Physicians directly to the scene of immediate threat to life 911 calls to provide critical emergency care at the road side.
When did KERPA start?
The origins of KERPA started as a pilot project in 2009 on the Sunshine Coast. It ran for 3 years and proved a success for rural response. This was the foundation of the response program in Nelson which started in 2014. KERPA was founded in 2016 and became a Canadian Registered Charity in 2018.
Who founded KERPA?
Dr. Nic Sparrow, an emergency physician at Kootenay Lake Hospital, in Nelson B.C.
How can I support KERPA?
There are several ways to support KERPA! You can make a financial contribution, become a sponsor, or a volunteer. Every donation helps. For more information, please visit our ‘Support Us’ page.
How is KERPA funded?
KERPA is funded entirely through the generosity of donors and sponsors. We provide our lifesaving services free of charge to patients and do not bill MSP or receive funding from the government. Your support helps us continue our mission of delivering essential roadside critical emergency care to those in need.
